The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 was a devastating setback that destroyed a significant portion of the city, though undeterred, Chicagoans united to rebuild, resulting in a renaissance of architectural innovation that led to the birth of the modern skyscraper and would become known as the birthplace of Modern Architecture.
